Modular School Offers Space for Five New Groups
The Heideschule in Schwerte is a two-form entry community school and, as an all-day school, offers care for pupils until 4:00 p.m. if desired. Due to increasing pupil numbers, regular school operations could only be ensured by using rooms provisionally. Therefore, the school's sponsor, Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V., decided to expand the Heideschule with a new building.
The modular construction company SÄBU Morsbach was awarded the contract to construct the new school building. The building, which consists of 17 room modules, offers space for five new groups. Up to 115 children are optimally cared for here according to today's requirements for modern educational buildings and receive the best support.
Important educational goals of the Heideschule are the promotion of independence, teamwork, tolerance, integration of children with disabilities, dealing with new media, nature and environmental awareness and the organisation of leisure time in the form of sports, music, dance and games.

The recessed main entrance of the barrier-free modular school is located opposite the existing building. The façade of the new building, with the exception of the recessed area at the entrance, was constructed with a horizontally laid wooden façade made of Siberian larch. This was invisibly fixed to a substructure.
In the area of the entrance and the connecting wing, a rear-ventilated HPL façade in a strong red tone with an antigraffiti coating was chosen, which forms a fresh colour and material contrast to the wooden façade.

The many floor-to-ceiling aluminium windows of the modular school provide plenty of natural light in all group and small rooms. The sun protection system with electric control and wind and brightness sensors ensures optimal shading of the meeting rooms.

The roof of the all-day school in modular construction is largely designed as a green flat roof. In the outdoor area, there is a large meadow with various playground equipment for playing and romping. The existing trees were preserved in the spirit of sustainability and to protect nature.

Especially when building in existing structures, the modular construction method reduces the dirt and noise pollution caused by construction site traffic to a minimum.
